The students will be able to
One of the oldest and broadest Engineering discipline, Civil Engineering involves planning, designing, constructing, maintaining and supervising infrastructures which includes facilities essential to modern life like highways, bridges and tunnels, schools, hospitals, airports and other buildings, sewage systems and water treatment facilities. Subsequently, the course also involves protecting public and environmental health as well as improving existing infrastructure. It is a wide-ranging profession infusing knowledge of structures, material science, mechanics, physics, mathematics, geology, hydrology, soils, environment and other physical sciences.
A comprehensive study into this marvellous engineering discipline, will, thus be naturally intriguing and challenging for any disciple. We at the Dept. of Civil Engineering in Jawaharlal College of Engineering, strive to protract this intrigue and flame it further. The team work of an immensely committed faculty will definitely inspire to aspire. A back up of well-developed and most modern infrastructure including laboratory facilities, for hands on practical experience, is also ensured by this institution. The quintessential teaching techniques have earned numerous rank holders for the department in university examinations. The team of faculty works hard to keep the study experience enjoyable. Guest lectures, workshop and symposium are organized on regular basis to enable students to interact with industry and acquaint themselves with current trends in civil engineering.
I look forward to enrich my students with knowledge, ability and skills so as to prepare them to face challenges in any competitive environment and work towards providing innovative and constructive solution for our country in future.
I wish all our students a wonderful career and brilliant success in all their future endeavours.

The available instruments include Total Station, Transit Theodolite, Dumpy Level, Plane Table, Prismatic Compass etc. It offers a practical course as per KTU syllabus in the third semester. Department conducts Survey camps and workshops to students and government servants.
The Material Testing lab is well established with equipment’s for testing the properties of different materials like, steel, timber, brick, tile etc. Typical experiments performed include measuring the strength of materials in terms of its ductility, hardness, brittleness, toughness, fatigue, modulus of elasticity, modulus of rigidity etc. The equipment available in the laboratory include Universal testing machine, Torsion testing machine, Impact testing machine, Brinell hardness testing machine, Rockwell hardness testing machine etc. It is offered in Semesters IV and V. Consultancy works are undertaken to find out the mechanical properties of different materials apart from regular lab services.
Fluid Mechanics section, Students are exposed to technical aspects of experiments like calibration of various flow measuring devices, measurements of characteristics of flow through pipes, orifices ,various notches fixed in channels, hydraulic turbines and pumps. It offers a practical course as per KTU syllabus in the fourth semester.
The main aim of this laboratory is to test the strength of soil. The major instruments available in our laboratory are for finding CBR, Direct shear, unconfined shear, Liquid limit etc. It offers a practical course as per KTU syllabus in the fifth semester. Consultancy services are also being carried out.
It offers a practical course as per KTU syllabus in the third and sixth semester. The lab is enriched with licensed application softwares like AutoCAD, STAAD Pro & Primavera for modeling, analysis & design of structures and construction management.
The students get in depth training in the testing of properties of the materials in the lab. This lab has all the facilities needed for testing of materials such as soil, aggregates and bitumen used in highway construction. It offers a practical course as per KTU syllabus in the sixth semester.
This lab has sophisticated equipment for qualitative and quantitative analysis of the characteristics of water and waste water. It is equipped with Turbidimeter, pH meters, COD reactors, BOD incubators, Hot Air Oven, and other equipment dedicated to water and wastewater quality analysis. It offers a practical course as per KTU syllabus in the seventh semester. Consultancy services are also being carried out.
Full-fledged labs supplemented with modern machines make this course useful for students aspiring to excel and ameliorate in Civil Engineering.
Laboratory facilities of the department are being utilized to offer consultancy services to public. The various services offered include
