The Department of Civil Engineering at JCET, Lakkidi was formed in the year 2011 with a mission to mould competent engineers to meet the technological challenges of the world. The programme aims at producing bright graduates in Civil Engineering to meet the rapid technological advances and industrial requirements. The department offers a full time B. Tech. Degree course in Civil Engineering. The department is affiliated to A.P.J Abdul Kalam Technological University. The present student intake of the department is 60. The students from different parts of the state are studying in the branch. The admission process of the B. Tech. program is done through the entrance examination conducted by the Commission for Entrance Examinations, Kerala.
The department is enriched with professionally qualified, vibrant faculty members specialized in various disciples of Civil Engineering. They impart strength to the department with their competitive skills and vibrant dedication. Apart from conducting academic programs, additional computer courses, seminars and workshops are conducted for the students as well as the faculty. The department is also equipped with different engineering laboratories, to cater to the external projects and consultancy works. Our infrastructure includes spacious class rooms, well equipped labs, resourceful libraries, seminar halls, wireless network access, departmental computing facilities.
One of the oldest and broadest Engineering discipline, Civil Engineering involves planning, designing, constructing, maintaining and supervising infrastructures which includes facilities essential to modern life like highways, bridges and tunnels, schools, hospitals, airports and other buildings, sewage systems and water treatment facilities. Subsequently, the course also involves protecting public and environmental health as well as improving existing infrastructure. It is a wide-ranging profession infusing knowledge of structures, material science, mechanics, physics, mathematics, geology, hydrology, soils, environment and other physical sciences.
A comprehensive study into this marvellous engineering discipline, will, thus be naturally intriguing and challenging for any disciple. We at the Dept. of Civil Engineering in Jawaharlal College of Engineering, strive to protract this intrigue and flame it further. The team work of an immensely committed faculty will definitely inspire to aspire. A back up of well-developed and most modern infrastructure including laboratory facilities, for hands on practical experience, is also ensured by this institution. The quintessential teaching techniques have earned numerous rank holders for the department in university examinations. The team of faculty works hard to keep the study experience enjoyable. Guest lectures, workshop and symposium are organized on regular basis to enable students to interact with industry and acquaint themselves with current trends in civil engineering.
I look forward to enrich my students with knowledge, ability and skills so as to prepare them to face challenges in any competitive environment and work towards providing innovative and constructive solution for our country in future.
I wish all our students a wonderful career and brilliant success in all their future endeavours.
